Peer Support
Peer support is a unique form of emotional and practical support provided by people who have lived experience with challenges such as mental illness, addiction, homelessness, trauma, or other life difficulties. Through shared experience, peer supporters offer understanding, encouragement, and hope while helping others navigate their own recovery and personal goals.
Peer support plays an important role in our homelessness services by building trusting relationships and providing compassionate, person-centered support. Because peer supporters have walked similar paths, they are uniquely positioned to connect with individuals in meaningful ways and help reduce isolation, foster resilience, and promote recovery.
Our Peer Support Program offers both one-on-one and group support in a welcoming, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment, by our highly trained and certified peer support workers.
Weekly Peer Support Groups
Our weekly peer support groups are open to anyone in the community. They provide a safe space where participants can connect with others, share experiences, and receive support from people who understand what they are going through.
Discussion topics include:
- Mental health
- Addiction and recovery
- Homelessness
- Grief and loss
- Wellness and self-care
- And more
Groups are held at:
- The Oak Centre Café, every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
- Wilmot United Church, every Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm
One-on-One Peer Support
We also offer confidential one-on-one peer support by appointment. Individual sessions provide a supportive space to talk through challenges, explore goals, and connect with community resources.
